Our History

Jabiru Area Council was established in 1982 to serve the growing community of Jabiru in the West Arnhem region. From our early days, we have worked to balance development with the preservation of Kakadu National Park and respect for Bininj/Mungguy people heritage.

Today, we serve 1,100 residents across a tropical monsoon landscape, managing essential services while celebrating what makes Jabiru unique. Our council works closely with traditional owners, community groups, and government partners to deliver outcomes for our region.

Our Vision

A thriving Jabiru community that honors Bininj/Mungguy people culture, protects Kakadu National Park, and creates opportunities for all residents in the West Arnhem region.
